Never Underestimate
"For the third year in a row, I cycled the Copper Triangle, a 78 mile course that goes up nearly 6,000 feet all at high altitude in the Colorado Rockies. The event is meaningful to me as I’ve captained a Victory Crew Team which benefits The Davis Phinney Foundation for the past two years. The Davis Phinney Foundation empowers those living with Parkinson’s Disease to live well now. My mom and several others in my community either have PD or are impacted by PD. Many who cycle The Copper Triangle live with Parkinson ’s disease and choose to live well now through cycling and fitness. The event is scenic, social, and inspiring.
This year I exceeded my personal goal of $2,000. and our Team Ripp Leadership exceeded our fundraising goal of $7,000 achieving $8,110 to date. Eight people making a difference by engaging our amazing communities of support. Two of our team weren’t able to cycle, yet still fundraised in service of those with PD living well now. Our group effort reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
“Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.” ~ Margaret Mead
This year’s race was special for me as I had two team members who came from sea level to conquer this monster ride. My coaching colleague and friend Ron came from McKinney Texas and one of my best friend’s, Stephanie, came from Vancouver Washington. I was inspired by their willingness to take on such a grueling physical challenge, and their commitment to fundraising to intentionally make a difference in people’s lives.
Sometimes being intentional isn’t easy. Sometimes making a difference isn’t easy. What’s important is what Margaret Mead reminds us about of not underestimating. Never underestimating what $5 in a donation can mean. Never underestimate the importance of supporting your friends. Never underestimate the impact of your efforts. Never underestimate the power of being intentional.
Choose being intentional. Choose making a difference. Both are worth it.
