The Importance of Coaching

I recently celebrated my birthday and have been being mindful to all I have to be grateful for. People top my list. Family. Friends. Clients. Coaches. So many amazing people I have the honor of working and walking through life with. One thing that relates to people that I am especially grateful for this year is my health. I had major shoulder surgery in October for a second time in less than 4 years on my dominant shoulder after spending 4 years in near constant pain after a car accident caused the damage. Pain for me led to a less active, more sedentary lifestyle which reduced my fitness and contributed to an increase in my weight. This brings me to the importance of coaching. People often ask me as a certified coach if I hire coaches to coach me. YES.

In the first 4 months of this year I have hired two coaches. In January, I worked with an incredibly talented health coach, Ray Hippolyte of Raynewvation Coaching (Ray also does relationship and other types of coaching). Through working with Ray I dropped 13lbs in 6 weeks which I have kept off for nearly 3 months. Ray is inspiring, fierce, and fully in service of those working to make lasting changes in their health goals. He was a brilliant partner for me during my shoulder recovery, and recovery from pretty rotten food habits. Ray empowered me to create new food habits to ensure I'm making healthy choices.

In March, I started working with an amazingly talented professional triathlete and coach, Sinead O'Dwyer. I actually coach Sinead from the Life|Leadership|Mental Performance side and she coaches me on the fitness and triathlon side of things. During my first 6 weeks of working with Sinead who is coaching me via Training Peaks, I have dropped another 7lbs, gained muscle definition and strength, and significantly increased my health and fitness through customized workouts. I feel strong, and better than I have in years thanks to Sinead's expertise and targeted workouts. Despite my shoulder not being 100%, I dropped 15 minutes of time off of the sprint triathlon I did for my birthday. EXCITING. Sinead challenges, supports, and inspires me to achieve beyond what I think is possible. I am proud to be a member of Team O'Dwyer.

Both of these coaches coach in different ways and in different arenas, and they are both brilliant coaches. They are two reasons we should hire coaches! We all have areas in our lives where coaching helps. Whether it’s a leadership or life coach like me, or a health coach like Ray, or a fitness coach like Sinead.

Hire a Coach. We are a field of talent ready to empower and work in service of transformations you want in your life.
